About the project
About the project
RT is an international television channel with a multilingual network of news and documentary programs, founded in 2005.

By 2021, the website hadn’t been updated for many years and no longer met modern standards. It wasn’t optimized for either small or large screens. The layout of content blocks was illogical and appeared random, with no consistent style across pages and sections. Navigation was also lacking.

In 2025, it's time for another redesign to refresh the established design and add new features.

My Approach
The goals of the redesign were to fix the layout, structure the content, improve readability, and adapt the website for modern devices – all while preserving its recognizable visual style.
My Role
My Role
During the project, I collaborated closely with editors and the development team. My main focus was analyzing the website architecture, reviewing competitors, redesigning existing pages, and creating new ones. After the designs were approved, I supervised the implementation and front-end development process. Throughout the project, we went through all the key stages typically involved in this type of product and website redesign.

Workflow

Each project has its own specifics, but I followed a universal plan that led me to the desired result step by step.

Briefing and Technical Specification
The technical brief was created after analyzing the available project data. The better we understand the users’ needs and expectations, the better we can design for them.
Competitor Analysis and Website Structure Development
Good solutions already exist – they just need to be found. I also mapped out the structure to better understand the problems, goals, and possible solutions.
Content and Reference Gathering
At this stage, I collected successful examples from competitors and related fields. This helped me define the overall direction and style.

Functional Prototype
This is where text and ideas are turned into a simplified structure. The prototype gave a realistic idea of how the concepts would function in practice.
Visual Concept and Design Detailing
From rough ideas to final layouts – turning concepts into visuals. This is where the design begins to take shape and become real.
Responsive Design
Adapting the project to modern standards and requirements. Testing the design across various devices and environments.

Handoff to Developers
Organizing and preparing the project for handoff. A clean and well-documented design ensures the best possible implementation outcome.

Reference Search and Prototyping

During the research phase, I reviewed many websites with a similar focus to find realistic and suitable redesign solutions. I concentrated on a minimalist and informative approach to content presentation.

As the project evolved, unnecessary sections were removed, updates were made based on CEO feedback, and product metrics such as click maps and scroll maps were taken into account. All thematic sections of the website were redesigned according to the new editorial requirements.

Design Detailing
Design Detailing
At the concept development stage, many iterations were made: card structures, author blocks, image sizes, and other interface elements were refined multiple times. Throughout the process, I worked closely with editors to better understand their needs and explain which solutions would work effectively and which would not.

Final Result
Final Result
I followed a step-by-step workflow during the design phase to minimize time loss and achieve the best possible result. After the layouts were approved and handed off to development, I continued supporting the implementation process through testing and communication with the development team. The project went through multiple review and revision stages.

Project Outcome
Project Outcome
The redesign modernized the website, improved readability, and brought both the visual and structural parts of the platform closer to current industry standards. At the same time, the website kept its recognizable identity while gaining important usability improvements, such as publication dates and properly organized tags.

Changes were introduced across all pages of the website: some received major updates, like the featured news section on the homepage, while others involved smaller refinements, such as legal and policy pages. All updates were presented to the editorial team and went through review and approval stages.

The final website became cleaner, easier to navigate, and more user-friendly. Thanks to improvements in content structure, typography, and layout organization, users can now read articles more comfortably and find information faster.

Overall, I feel that I learned a lot — especially about teamwork — and significantly improved my skills while working on this project. I look forward to taking on more projects like this in the future.
